Every storage plan starts the same way. With your stuff.

Most companies ask which cabinets you want. We'd rather know what's in there, because that's the thing that decides everything. We call it the Garage Inventory, and it runs in this order every time.

What stays?

Before anything else. A lot of what's in a garage hasn't been touched in three years, and sorting that out usually frees up more room than any product we could sell you. It's also the least fun part, so we do it with you rather than leaving you a homework assignment.

How often do you reach for it?

Daily, weekly, seasonal, or basically never. That one answer decides how far something lives from the door, and it's the difference between a garage that stays organized and one that's a mess again by March.

Do you want to see it, grab it, or forget it?

Three different answers and three different solutions. Bikes and the good tools earn wall space. Holiday bins go overhead. The half-used paint and the pool chemicals go behind a door.

Where does it belong?

Things used together get stored together. The car side, the yard and garden corner, the sports pile, the workbench, the stuff that comes in from the car and needs somewhere to land. Zones come first, and they come from how you move through the room.

Then, and only then, we specify products.

Cabinet, drawer, slatwall, rack, shelf, overhead or something purpose-built. By the time we get here the answer is usually obvious, because the four questions above already made the decision.

You shouldn't have to know how many linear feet of cabinet you need. Tell us how you live in the room. Converting that into a design is our job.

Cabinets and drawers

FOR THE THINGS YOU WANT OUT OF SIGHT

The anchor of most garages and the piece that makes the room read as finished. We keep the options curated on purpose: a manageable set of good construction, finishes and worktops, rather than a catalog of four hundred SKUs you have to sort through yourself. Wall-mounted or floor-mounted, and we'll walk you through why you'd pick either.

Slatwall and wall organization

FOR THE THINGS THAT SHOULDN'T BE IN A CABINET

Bikes, lawn tools, extension cords, hoses, helmets, folding chairs, sports gear. Cabinets and slatwall solve different problems and the good garages use both. We don't cover every wall with it, though. A garage lined wall to wall in slatwall stops looking like a house and starts looking like a shop floor.

Overhead storage

FOR WHAT COMES DOWN TWICE A YEAR

Holiday bins, luggage, camping gear, the stuff you'd rather not think about. This is the category where the installation matters most. We use systems with documented load ratings, we verify what we're attaching to, and we tell you the weight limit rather than letting you find it the hard way.

Workbenches and work areas

FOR WHATEVER YOU ACTUALLY DO IN THERE

Fixing bikes, detailing a car, woodworking, repotting plants, the kids' projects. Each one wants a different depth of counter, different drawers, different outlets and different light. So we start with what happens at the bench, then build the bench.

Open shelving and specialty storage

FOR BULK, AND FOR THE AWKWARD THINGS

Open shelving is honest and useful for utility areas, bulk items and tighter budgets, and it's a real option we'll recommend when it fits. Specialty covers the things that never store well anywhere: bikes, golf bags, tires, ladders, coolers, beach chairs, the trash and recycling bins that have to live somewhere. Those are usually the items driving you crazy, so they get solved first rather than last.

Sometimes you own more than the room can hold.

We could fill every wall and the whole ceiling with storage. It would technically organize your belongings and it would make your garage feel like a warehouse. Part of our job is knowing when to stop, and occasionally telling you that what you want to keep won't fit in there elegantly no matter what we install. We'd rather have that conversation at the design stage than hand you a beautiful garage you can't move around in.

On the wall or on the floor. Both are right.

Wall-mounted keeps the floor running unbroken underneath, so you can push a broom or a hose straight through without working around toe kicks, and the cabinet bases stay out of whatever water comes off the car in February.

Floor-mounted handles heavier loads, feels planted, and stays movable. Plenty of people want that. Garages change, you might reconfigure in three years, and a cabinet that's bolted to studs is a bigger decision than one that isn't. Some of it can go on casters and roll to wherever the work is happening.

We'll tell you what we'd do in your garage and why. Then you decide, because you're the one living with it.
